The radio works great clear audio out, and nice loud rx audio via the top-mounted spkr. I like the heavy feel, and apparently it sounds better than the KMC-30 mic that I also have.Īll of the Kenwood mics with a modular plug will work with any of the Kenwood radios that have a modular mic jack, including the DTMF mic that comes with the TM-271ATM-281A Amateur mobiles.
There is also a TK-760HG-2, with a bandsplit of 136-162 MHz, but they seem to be less-common on eBay. My specific model is TK-760HG-1, which has a 146-174 MHz bandsplit, but Ive programmed freqs all throughout the ham band and even down to 142 MHz rx with no issues (the programming software will warn you that the frequency is out of range, but will accept the value).
Programming is accomplished via Kenwoods KPG-56D software, or CHIRP.
